As typically happens with major sporting competitions, my allegiance was split between several teams for this year's World Cup. On the one hand, I was born and raised in the good ol' USA. Go stars and stripes! But wait, my dad and his family are from Germany. and it is fun to root against your home team every once in awhile. Go Deutschland! But then again, my closest friend who I spend most of summer with is from Liverpool. and I did not want to be the only one at the pub when we went to watch the games, in a gang of rowdy, 'football' crazed British Americans, who was rooting for the other team. And so it was with confidence that I told my friend and her parents of my complete loyalty to their country's team and my commitment to cheer for England's victory when we would visit a local British pub to watch the England v.
